Sharia Law Critics An Endangered Species

November 6, 2014

Sharia law or gay marriage critics would be branded ‘extremists’ under Tory plans, atheists and Christians warn – Telegraph.

“Anyone who criticises Sharia law or gay marriage could be branded an “extremist” under sweeping new powers planned by the Conservatives to combat terrorism, an alliance of leading atheists and Christians fear.

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, unveiled plans last month for so-called Extremism Disruption Orders, which would allow judges to ban people deemed extremists from broadcasting, protesting in certain places or even posting messages on Facebook or Twitter without permission.

Mrs May outlined the proposal in a speech at the Tory party conference in which she spoke about the threat from the so-called Islamic State – also known as Isis and Isil – and the Nigerian Islamist movement Boko Haram.

But George Osborne, the Chancellor, has made clear in a letter to constituents that the aim of the orders…

THE FEAST OF ALL SAINTS AND ALL SOULS by Fr. Joel

November 6, 2014

Holy Family Irving

AllSaintsAllSouls-kdThe church established by Jesus Christ is a community of saints and sinners, including both living and death members. This community is classified as follows: Triumphant church (Saints in heaven), militant church (the church on earth), and suffering church (those in purgatory undergoing purification before they will be admitted in heaven).

The month of November is the month dedicated for praying for our departed loved ones. We started with the feast of all saints on the 1st of November. This feast was introduced by Pope Gregory III in the eight century to remember all the saints and ask for their intercession. It was to Christianized the pagan feast of fighting evil spirits called Halloween. Halloween comes from the phrase ‘’all hallows’ eve’’ which means ‘’all saints eve’’ celebrated on October 31st. So, instead of the pagan feast, we Christians celebrate the feast of all saints, asking for their…

PSA : Nagging Never Works to Change Anyone

November 6, 2014

Leticia Ochoa Adams

I was talking to my best friend today about some things and I realized that so many people have such a crazy idea about marriage and relationships; me included. My husband and I are going through some things, and while it’s not my place to publicly talk about the specifics, I can talk about what I am learning by the Grace of God, my therapist, Alanon (there is no love addiction 12 step program close to me) and spiritual direction. As well as a great text conversation with my best friend who is the best friend anyone could ever have asked for.

The biggest lesson of the past few months, that barely hit me this morning, is that nagging has become the most common way that a lot of women think they can get their men to do what they want. I have lived and watched enough people in my…

I Have Come This Far

November 6, 2014

Religion & Science for Mind & Body

I have come this far

by Faith

because I am Faith.

I am not perfect

Nor ever will be

I’m only getting better

And wiser

About life itself.

I have come this far

by Hope

because I am Hope.

Why Hope?  Because life

Happens in cycles.

There’s always

A birth, growth, decay then death.

And then there’s always birth again

perhaps

in new form, but always one.

I have come this far

By Love and for Love.

Love is all there is.

It’s Love

In each one of us that

Animates and keeps us going.

Thus, love is in me now.

So this moment

I  give thanks

for Faith, Hope and Love

And

For coming this far.

Peter Walks on the Water by Fr. Joel

November 6, 2014

Holy Family Irving

matthew 14A man who was mentally ill told his therapist that he was Jesus. The therapist got measurements of the man’s arms and height then went and got two pieces of wood with the same measurements and some nails. When the therapist put the two pieces of wood in the form of a cross and started nailing them together, he said to the ill man  “You should know what I am doing.’’ And the ill man said ‘’Wait! Wait! I am not Jesus Christ! Are you crazy or what?”

Anyone who wants to be a disciple of Jesus should be ready to be nailed to the cross. Trusting in Jesus means that you are willing to ‘’walk on water’’ as Peter did. Our faith tells us that we are to risk all relying on God’s support. Only a man of faith would accept an invitation from a ghost as Peter did…
